5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book 17 Aug 2013
"Not many books make me laugh out loud but this is definitely one of them!I was not too sure what to expect when I got this book as I have not read anything by the author before but even on the first page I was chuckling away.I very rarely recommend anything in case people are disappointed but this book is very good."
5.0 out of 5 stars Certainly different 26 Aug 2013
"I thought there was a touch of Douglas Adams in this tale of talking, telepathic penguins. Absurd but funny. Can't wait for the sequel."
5.0 out of 5 stars flipping heck 26 Aug 2013
"Funny, Quirky, touch of the late great Deric Longden. Very original!!! I have read thousands of books and have never read one like this, it is a first. Highly recommended, especially for those with imagination, intelligence, and a sense of humour."

How do you fit nine penguins and two humans into a mini?

On the Red Carpet... The Flipping Heck! Launch Party

Welcome dear reader, you join us behind the scenes at the launch party for Flipping Heck! - The first Don Castor Investigation.

With us are the human stars of Flipping Heck! Don Castor, Carlota Pey and Baron Canton-Ess.

Please, call me Ludvig.

Ludvig. Okay. Thanks for taking time out of what I'm sure is a busy promotion schedule to join us this evening. So, Don, if we may start with you. What was it like working with Carlota?

Oh, it was okay I suppose.
Hey! [thud]
Oww! Okay, okay [laughter] it was fun. Carlota is a natural... she knows just how to play a scene just right.

And for you Carlota? How did you find working with Don for the first time?

Don's got a good sense of comic timing. We spent half the time having to re-do scenes because he had me in stitches. Hopefully we'll get to work on the sequel together.

Ludvig, if we can turn to you. How would you describe your character?

A loveable rogue? When I read the brief I knew how I wanted to play him. Slightly flawed but ultimately with a good heart. Whether he comes good in the end; you'll have to wait and see.

Not giving anything away?

Oh no.

Carlota. So that the readers can understand what makes Carlota tick, can you tell us what got you into being an undercover journalist?

It was my fictional Dad that got me into it. He was a cop back home in the States, and originally I wanted to follow in his footsteps. Things didn't quite work out that way and I ended up doing journalism. One thing led to another and I found myself wanting to expose the real dirt that's out there.

And that is how you met the penguin group?

Yes, although again. You'll have to read the book to find out how.

Don. What made you want to be a freelance private detective?

Less chance of getting fired? [chuckle] I'd had a few jobs here and there but never really found my niche. Then there was a little industrial accident.

Little?

Well, it was only one laboratory that burnt down. I saw an advertisment for a P.I. course, and decided it looked a good career.

And are you happy with how you were cast?

Well, I think I could have been made more daring, but once I read the outline for the plot, I knew I wanted to come on-board the project.

Ludvig, as the readers will find, you may have had one or two mishaps. What experiment are you most proud of?

I'd still say matter transfer I think.

Even though you...?

Well, I know that isn't exactly ideal, but we can't give anything away.

True. So what does a mad scientist do in their spare time?
Plan experiments. I'm always planning. Sleeping, eating, walking; it doesn't matter. That's all I do apparently, although I'm hoping for a new hobby for the sequel.

Well, we are almost out of time, so Carlota, one final question for you. What does the future hold?

I guess we'll have to wait and see. It depends on the ending of the book.

You haven't seen it yet?

Oh no. It's been kept well under wraps.

And Don... what gets you up in the morning now that the work of laying down the novel is finished?

My alarm clock.

And on that note readers, we shall leave it there. Don, Carlota, Ludvig. Thank you very much for your time, and we'll let you get back to the launch party.

Thank you.

So, there you have it folks... tell your friends, tell your family. Tell that dodgy guy at the end of the bar with the wonky leg...

And it's available tomorrow... Flipping Heck!

Finishing Touches

With just over twenty-four hours until launch of Flipping Heck! a certain stillness is descending as the nerves build.

The proofs have been reviewed, the artwork checked and re-checked, the characters given their final instructions to ensure that they remember their lines.

After over a decade, this particular project reaches its conclusion and it is now out of my hands...

Scary...

Check back tomorrow for an interview with the leading human characters. They give their take on what it was like to work with such a ground-breaking and superb author (no edit bias whatsoever!).

Remember... Flipping Heck! coming soon...
